For some people with mast cell disease, this is a constant fear. This may be a symptom of Mast Cell Activation Syndrom (MCAS). Symptoms may flare, or increase as a result of the underlying cascade of release of mediators, which is kargely unpredictable, and can be excrutiating and debilitating.

In mast cell activation syndromes, people have symptoms of mast cells being activated even though they have a normal number of mast cells. Their mast cells are being triggered inappropriately. Chemical mediators released by those mast cells can cause symptoms such as flushing, itching, hives, headache, gastrointestinal symptoms and low blood pressure.
